Hi! I’m Melissa- a Certified Holistic Nutrition and Wellness Coach,
Yoga Teacher, blogger, healthy food lover, wife, and Philly girl. I love Yoga and Barre classes, lazy weekend mornings, avocados and green smoothies and red wine and mimosas. It’s all about balance.
But, this wasn’t always the case for me…
After graduating from Binghamton University with a BA in Psychology, I joined the fast-paced and stressful world of the fashion industry. Yes- this is a far stretch from studying the mind and behaviors of humans, but my love for fashion, and my need for a job, lead me down this path. Overtime; however, after living in both NYC and Philly and working for 2 different fashion companies, I noticed that my job dictated my life, and I was sacrificing my own health and happiness. My healthy eating and exercise were put on the back burner, self-care no longer existed, and I was miserable. Additionally, my enthusiasm and drive for the industry faded, and I was left feeling discontent, stressed, fatigued, unhealthy and unhappy.
I knew something had to give, and I was finally ready to take the leap and make a scary, but necessary change. I began to realize that my true passion was nutrition, yoga, and wellness (Psychology has more relevance here 😉), and that I felt most inspired and fulfilled when helping others (and myself) better their lives. This revelation, combined with my desire to improve my own health and well-being, guided me away from the world of fashion and into the field of nutrition and health.
The day I made this life-changing decision, I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) where I was trained in more than 100 dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. I mastered the concepts behind clean eating, intuitive and mindful eating, how to eat and exercise for your own body and the necessity to create balance and happiness in all areas of your life. Most importantly, I studied how intertwined our lives and happiness are with our food and lifestyle choices- ideas that are rarely addressed. I am now currently enrolled in Northeastern University where I am completing my Master’s Degree in Applied Nutrition.
This career change was the key that opened my eyes and heart to a happier, healthier, and more positive lifestyle, which I hope to spread to each one of you. I am a firm believer in the importance of living a life you love while still looking and feeling your absolute best. It is possible to create a healthy body and life even while having a full plate (no pun intended) and enjoying your favorite foods and interests. It’s all about making simple, but healthy upgrades to your food choices and habits, and I will share all of my top tips and tricks, recipes, and the latest health and wellness scoop that will help you along your journey. <3
